1 Overview

PlateCheck NYC ("the App") is a mobile application developed and operated by Jairo Jose Carrizales Veracierta ("we," "us," or "our"), an independent developer based in Mexico.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Last updated: April 16, 2026.

2 Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

License plate numbers: When you type or scan a plate number, it is used solely to query the NYC Open Data public API. It is not stored on our servers — we do not operate any servers.

Saved vehicles: If you add a vehicle to "My Fleet," the plate number and data returned by the public API (owner name, base name, expiration date, vehicle type) are stored locally on your device only using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it via the iOS share sheet.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device Identifiers and Advertising (Free Tier Only)

If you use the free tier, we use Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect:

Pro and Fleet subscribers do not see ads. AdMob is never initialized for paid subscribers, so no advertising data is collected.

Usage Data: We do not independently collect analytics, crash reports, or behavioral data. Apple may collect anonymized statistics through the App Store under their own Privacy Policy.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

3 How We Use Your Information

Data Purpose
License plate input Query the NYC Open Data API to retrieve vehicle status
Saved vehicle data (local) Display your fleet, calculate expiration countdowns, schedule local notifications
AdMob identifiers (free tier) Display advertisements to support the free version of the App

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

4 Data Storage and Security

All vehicle data you save is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not operate databases, cloud storage, or backend servers.

5 Third-Party Services

5.1 NYC Open Data (Socrata SODA API)

When you perform a plate lookup, a network request is sent to the NYC Open Data public API (data.cityofnewyork.us). The only data transmitted is the plate number you enter. NYC Open Data Terms of Use →

5.2 Google AdMob (Free Tier Only)

AdMob may collect device identifiers for ad targeting, subject to your ATT consent. Google Privacy Policy →

5.3 RevenueCat (Paid Subscriptions)

RevenueCat verifies and manages your subscription entitlement. Transactions are processed entirely by Apple. RevenueCat does not receive your payment information. RevenueCat Privacy Policy →

5.4 Apple Push Notifications

Local notifications are generated and stored entirely on your device. No notification content is sent to our servers.

6 App Tracking Transparency (ATT)

The App displays an ATT prompt before showing personalized ads. You may allow or deny tracking at any time:

Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → PlateCheck NYC

If you deny tracking, AdMob serves non-personalized ads and does not use your IDFA.

7 Local Notifications

If you grant notification permissions, the App schedules local alerts on your device for upcoming permit expirations. These notifications are:

8 Data Retention

Since all data is stored locally on your device, we have no ability to access, modify, or delete it.

Data TypeRetention

9 Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at andreslinares4@gmail.com and we will take immediate action.

10 Your Rights

Since we do not collect or store personal data on servers, most of your data is already under your direct control on your device. For any privacy-related requests, contact us at andreslinares4@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

11 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
